“Jace is more powerful than Karn, unrestrict Bargain” is a good way of saying “I haven’t played this format recently but here are my opinions.”

Just so you know, Jace is pretty weak in Vintage due to Narset and creatures. Bargain is already unrestricted and inferior to Bolas’s Citadel.

That doesn't mean a part of his reasoning is incorrect.
I have always felt that the restriction of Brainstorm and Ponder was an overkill at that point in time (As you probably know it was restricted together with Merchant Scroll and Gush at the same time).

I believe the following cards could be unrestricted to make the format better.
Windfall or Memory Jar

Cards that should never be unrestricted because they are stupidly powerful one-card combos or because they’d break the format in 4x

Yawgmoth’s Will
Monastery Mentor
Mind’s Desire
Efficient Tutors (Demonic Tutor, Demonic Consultation, Vampiric Tutor, Imperial Seal, Mystical Tutor, Merchant Scroll)
Library of Alexandria
Lion’s Eye Diamond
Lodestone Golem
Fast mana acceleration cards
Tolarian Academy
Treasure Cruise
Dig Through Time
Efficient Draw 7

Cards that should be unrestricted to balance the format, keep some decks in check, and make new archetypes available

Karn, the Great Creator (Jace is more powerful, yet it’s unrestricted)
Mystic Forge (finally artifact decks have a draw engine, hurrah)
Chalice of the Void (the solution to make it playable is to print cards so that those decks that are affected have side strategies)

I can agree with you for most of your reasoning, except for the 3 unrestrictions Karn, Mystic and CotV.
These 3 cards unrestricted would make any other workshop deck inferior to the deck playing these 3 cards. Furthermore, I believe the power lvl of these 3 cards is to high even when you play only 1 of the 3 in a deck.
Karn was also not only played in Workshop (although mostly), but if you looked at the Tournament in Japan, it was played as a 4x in Ritual combo to be able to fetch TV+Key for the win. If a card is able to be placed in every deck regardless the strategy and be off an impact that wins you games after you have resolved him, it should not be unrestricted imho.

I do agree with the fact that Brainstorm and Ponder do not belong on the restricted list. If these would unrestricted, Mana Drain is able to be relevant again (Gifts, Slaver Style with Thirst and Welder).

But as much I love Gush, I don't know if this card could be unrestricted, at least not with 4 Fastbond available.

Necro is something which should be tried imo, but I could not forsee the impact of it.

Mental Misstep is format wrapping, when available as a 4 off, you need to play him to be able to fight him, this makes deck building more constrained then it already is because you have so many auto includes, furthermore, Dark Ritual can't be a Pillar if Mental Misstep is unrestricted.

This card is very good in a permission war (to force your bomb through), but as a general counter spell I believe it is worse than Mana Leak due to the clause.

What makes the Hogaak approach better then a certain Dread Return package if we go with Hermid Druid, then it might be better to revert back to the dread return plan. Here are some examples I found.

Targets a player, but hard to disrupt:
1x Lord of Extinction
1x Murderous Redcap
1x The Mimeoplasm

Doesn't target a player but can be disrupted:
1x Laboratory Maniac
1x Angel of Glory's Rise
1x Azami, Lady of Scrolls

The support is a minimum of
3x Narcomoeba
2x Bridge from Below
1x Dread Return

With 4x Cabal Therapy to generate tokens and remove the hate from target p[layers hand

This way you have way more room for protection and disruption and card selection.
But then again, this has been tried in the past and was not successful due to the dependency on Hermid Druid and the fact he can't be activated the moment he comes into play.

Just my 2 cents.

I found them on the Archive of The Mana Drain, it is easier when you know where to look 🙂 .

With the release of PO and the new counter spell (FoN)that will be released within the new set some tweaks can bring this list on par with the current PO lists, although the SB needs a massive update.

The name Watskeburt was givin to the deck by Andy Probasco after he used it during one of the weekly's and his opponents replied to him after they lost; What the F... happened just now, because the deck always explode from out of nothing.

If I need to translate Watskeburt to English that would be the translation and it is also a Dutch song.

I hope this helped you in the right direction.

Greetz, Arjan

PS: The deck from Tobias was an adjustment for his meta which was really shop heavy at that time and therefore he played the Dark Confidant main.

PS 2: Almost Blue is a deck which originated in France as a a way to battle the TPS decks in the days , we talk here around 2003-2007. Later I and some of our Spanish friends picked it up and played it allot.
But Almost Blue = Watskeburt, those are not different decks. The only thing is that the deck evolved in the era it was played due to the (un-)restrictions thet happend over time.

BF is not as dead as you might think.
It disrupts top deck tutors.
It pitches to FoW.
It feuls Y-win.
And when chained you dont require allot of storm to combo out.
BF should be paired with tormods crypt which is an easy draw with PO and therefore you are preboarded for dredge.

What is the general thought about Brain Freeze for Paradoxial Outcome decks.
I played Almost Blue for a long time and believe that PO is a natural fit for the deck now Gush is restricted.

Furthermore, I really liked the article, there is not enough content on the web in regards to vintage, so keep up the good work.
