Kind of bummed you guys didn't discuss Golden Guardian.

4 is a reasonable casting cost in Workshops, even for a (4/4!) defender, and its activated ability only costs 2 - while the fight aspect is a bit prohibitive, the second part of its ability doesn't look at how it dies, meaning that it could (likely) become delicious Ravager food.

Its flipped side seems good in a game that's being drawn out. It's a Sol land with no real drawbacks, but can also churn out uncounterable 4/4s every turn

Hiya Steve,

Great content, as per usual.

One thing that I think you missed in your analysis of the Gush metagame spike in 2014 (~2h16 in) was the printing of Dack Fayden at the end of Q2 which, coupled with the Delve cards in KTK, made Gush much more attractive.

Awesome card with an awesome ability, but I'm not sure if she fits in the current Shops-driven meta. Guessing she'd go into a Grixis Thieves-type build or Grixis Pyro (RIP), neither of which have been a thing in Vintage for awhile.

I want this to be good so, so badly.

I honestly want this card to be good.

@Smmenen you and Kevin spent a lot of time this episode discussing Young Pyromancer as a dead archetype - didn't Walking Ballista already cripple it? Or is this the final nail in the coffin?

@evouga
Interesting! Didn't think about its application in a Two-Card Monte shell.

Vizier of Tumbling Sands

Does this have a home in (Paradoxical Outcome) Storm? I suppose it doesn't add to your storm count, but an uncounterable cantrip that can refuel your Academy seems pretty useful. Or is it too narrow to have an impact?

Something like Git Probe now says "Pay 2 life: Look at target player's hand, then draw a card. Add WUBRGX to your mana pool."
