    • Vintage Leagues 'coming' to MTGO

The State of Magic Online was published today, and it made a passing reference to setting up leagues for vintage.

As someone who doesn't have four hour blocks to play, this might help me find time to play. Excited to see how this turns out.

@benjamin_berry not at the cost of knocking other players out of the top 8 ..

You knocked someone out of the top 8. Rich is not upset, but he isn't the person in 9th place every time.

The other members of the top 8 won and earned their position, Jazza didn't. Why should he be in single elimination rounds, and why should you get to decide?

And even if you don't think I played optimally (which I concede), I thought that was a pretty clever Doomsday pile. My plays werent optimal, but I dont agree that they were as bad as you suggest.

The play was suboptimal because MTGO is suboptimal, and you probably play it correctly in paper magic

      Eternal Weekend results:
Bant Survival = 64% win rate (7 players)
RGwu Survival = 58% win rate (4 players)
Other Survival = ~63.6% win rate (4 players: Junk, Bug, 2 4c lists)

Best advantage is that this is an instant. So in time vault control, if you cast this EOT, they have to fight over it and you can untap into tezzerret or something equally powerful.

Biggest issue is dying while tapped out with Sphere's in play and potentially not being able to cast the free spell.

If it was a Thorn based deck, that would lower the risk, but the value could be drastically reduced.

Edit: Just realized that this is a very slow Blood Braid Elf.

    • RE: Whats the play?

With Ancestral and Flusterstorm in hand, I an inclined to always go greedy, and Ancestral in response to the opponent putting an instant or sorcery on the stack.

But without a second sources of blue, I likely flusterstorm to keep the top, since it can't protect the Ancestral.

I think the strongest line for Karn vs Jace tMS is to play +Karn while playing and protecting Time Vault.

If you can protect time vault through one of the opponents turn, Karn can make a Construct and attack with “haste”.

Unlimited. Once you’re willing to accept proxies in the first place, it feels arbitrary to say “your $1000 Library can be fake, but your $500 Underground Seas need to be real.”

Seconded. Seems real weird that this wasn't an option.

      @spook said in Proxy Rules:

I like some cap, so that people aren't proxying commons on top of other commons.

I pretty frequently proxy random cheap cards that I just don't happen to have while playing lots of cards that cost way more. I'd hate to not be allowed to play just because I don't play Preordain in any of my Legacy decks.

It is more about the game state being clear, so as Nova said, 100% proxy is fine if printed well. But getting blown out by a plains that is partially underneath another proxy, and has "tabernacle" scribbled on it is not a good experience.

    • RE: Two Card Monte

@mathmentor said in Two Card Monte:

Hey everyone, I’m new to this deck and have enjoyed playing it online. The first time I played the deck in paper I had a situation where I had a leyline of the void and a grindstone in play. My opponent thought he was dead not knowing the combo so I activate grindstone, and he puts the first two cards of his library in the graveyard and then asks some questions to which I don’t respond and then he concedes. Is this some moral grey area of the rules or am I obligated somehow to clarify?

This could easily be “Misrepresenting the Gamestate” which is a DQ and possible suspension. Hard to know exactly what happened from your description.

@rat3de I think the strength of PO in this deck is when Frenzy isn't present. But you could build a DD half of the deck that works without EF.

Wouldn't you just pick up the frenzy as well so there is no down side?

They work really well together, but they also work well on their own.

Building EF / DD, I don’t know if that is true.

Xerox tops out at paying three mana for a spell (and will convert extra lands into virtual card advantage with Dack). Big blue goes bigger.

@tittliewinks22 Do you mean this as an enabler for Eggs? Sac a bunch of moxes/land, draw a bunch of cards, cast second sunrise, repeat?

Pretty similar to Paradoxical Outcome, and can return an Academy over and over, but PO does this without being reliant on the graveyard.
