Card seems decent, but honestly this ‘creatures good, noncreatures bad’ thing is becoming a cliché.

I just want them to spoil a 4 CMC artifact that makes you the monarch.

@Serracollector It’s an intervening if clause, so it checks both when it goes on the stack, and when it resolves. In order to draw off multiple of these, you need to empty your hand in between the triggers resolving. Custom dictates that I mention Uba Mask now.

The article on wizards.com that introduces this guy is quite interesting:

I'm sinking into my chair, shoulders slumped, trying to avoid looking at the battlefield. All eight of my lands are tapped. My hand is empty. I have a sickening feeling that none of my creatures are going to survive until my next turn.

Across the table from me, my opponent is going off. "Let's see, I cast Serum Visions, scry both cards to the top, draw two off this Divination, kill both your Demons, exile my graveyard to lower the delve cost on Dig Through Time...”

My opponent is playing Magic, and I am not. It is one of the worst feelings in the world.

The good news is that apparently, WotC still think casting cantrips etc. constitutes ‘playing Magic’. The bad news is that they also think playing Magic should be punished.

WotC seem to be wasting a lot of reprint equity with this set, and I’m wondering why they have decided they need to do so now, in the last quarter of the fiscal year. None of the reasons I can think of say particularly good things about the current health of the game.

@rbartlet I have a three-year-old and luckily he’s pretty careful with my stuff, but he’s had a lecture about daddy’s stuff not being toys—after he managed to pry open a deck box and was playing with a Lotus and some duals. Now I keep my Lego next to my cards. That stuff is technically also off limits, but I’d much rather he’d play with Lego than with my cards…

@Stormanimagus Spirits also have that 1UW Crystalline Sliver-type guy. Fit Tallowisp in there and you’ve convinced me.

@Brass-Man I get the feeling we’ll see a lot of derailed threads like:

Alice: [reasonable post]
Bob: [something stupid]
Carol: That’s stupid.
Alice (who doesn’t see Bob’s post): No, it’s not.

So, does Shops want a creature that gets cheaper if you have a Sphere out?

Interesting note is the Printing of the Vintage EDH fast mana, so they didn't forget about the Format as it seems.

FTFY. Sure it’s nice for Vintage players, but EDH pimping is the reason WotC is printing these things.

posted in Single-Card Discussion read more

If you want to go janky, two of these, Ravager, and Krark-Clan Ironworks should do it. Then you only need one mana and one other artifact to start the engine.

Scenario 1: Playing mana denial vs the mana denial deck has never worked for me. Here, you’re not gaining tempo from wasting because you don’t have a threat on the board. I would fetch for basic Island and Preordain to find a white source.

Scenario 2:

Had I held the wasteland, my opponent would not have had the mana for fluster, and who can say what would have happened, what would you have done?

This is three turns, with a Top, past your Wasteland. The game’s entirely different if you don’t waste. I think your rationale for wasting here is solid. I think I would be more inclined to think that protecting the Ponder signals they are low on business rather than mana, so I’d probably have gone Volc for Ponder for permission, but that’s a personal call.

L1 Judge here. If I were called to the situation you described in your first post, I’d rule that player B’s explanation is correct: Player A putting their Gisela in the graveyard indicates that they chose to apply the damage doubling effect first, which is a legal choice for them to make. Player B’s choice of applying the damage reduction effect first is also legal, so there’s nothing to do here: Player A’s Gisela is dead, Player B’s Gisela is alive, and they can continue with the game.

Note that it doesn’t matter whether Player A knew that they could choose in which order they apply the replacement effects. Player B gets an advantage for having a superior knowledge of the rules, but that’s how competitive Magic works.

@serracollector said in Proposed New Mulligan Rule for Mythic Championship London:

Just curious but how much would this increase odds of Mox/crypt/lotus + Orchard + Oath turn 1? They are all 4+ ofs, can anyone do the math?

Assuming 4 Orchard, 4 Oath and 7 Mox/Lotus/Crypt and assuming you mulligan until you have T1 Oath, roughly 32% compared to 15% under the existing mulligan rule.

@chubbyrain said in Proposed New Mulligan Rule for Mythic Championship London:

If anyone is curious, the odds of failing to finding a 4-of in a 60 card deck with 6 mulligans (as 7 mulligans serves no point) is (1-0.40)^6 = 4.7%

You get seven shots at finding the Bazaar (keeping 7 cards, keeping 6, …, keeping 1), so the probability of failing to find it under the new rule is (1-.4)⁷ = 2.8%. I don’t know exactly how Serum Powders will work under the new rules, but if you just exile seven, I don’t think main deck Dredge hate will be good enough.

I simulated 1000000 games for each option (old/new rule, with/without Serum Powder). These are the percentages of getting T1 Bazaar:

Old rule without Powders: 86.6%
Old rule with Powders: 94.1%
New rule without Powders: 97.2%
New rule with Powders (exiling 7): 99.6%
