TNT : My New Favorite Deck

  • @desolutionist combustable gearhulk should get a look in this list for sure. With 4 welders you can see a ton of cards and/or deal alot of damage and load your yard. Maybe in place of wormcoil #2.

  • Yea, with haste, Dr. Shaman can be birds that can attack for 2 if needed, and it gets around wastes, bloodmoons, and null rods, which ur deck seems weak too. I still think Wonder should be in there. Swing in the air is still good and gets around moat.

    Just a thought but shouldn't you have a draw 7 and dump, like Jar, Windfall, or Wheel?

    Is Razormane better than Triskelion?

    Is mana confluence necessary if you play more fetches/duals, and Dr. Shaman?

    I got a lot to say about this but gearhulk is officially the bomb in phantoms

    i hear magus of the wheel is a creature.

  • Have you thought about Silent Arbiter to fight mentor decks? Run a Singleton Scuttling Doom Engine to swing past tokens and weld away for 6 damage to the face?

    @snowydude Magus sounds interesting but Wouldn't Sandstone Oracle be better to weld in and out of play? Also one sided which is very relevant.

    I love Colored shops and Ravager shops but the biggest trouble I have is beating U/x Landstill. Katataki in particular as energy flux is a bit harder to cast.Welder plus survival and non artifact creatures sounds perfect to fight it.

    Nice post, a lot of good mentions here.

  • @desolutionist Thanks I'm having a really hard time not including Scuttling doom engine in just because it beats Ensnaring bridge and can't be chump blocked by the majority of small creatures gush decks are running right now.

    What I've been running in my Thought-Knot Blue list to fight storm alongside In the Eye of Chaos is Arcane Lab as ITEoC #2-4.

    Edit: If you ever feel like you ar egonna have to face Oath Greater Gargadon is silly against opposing Orchards.

    i feel like drawing 7 every time is better than drawing 2 or 3 once or twice.
    id sooner play sphinx of uthuun or concecrated sphinx

    i havent ever sleeved this up so mosty im just throwing out cards that i feel are consideration for 1 of type slots. its entirely possible im 100% wrong on all of these thoughts.

    i didnt even play survival when it was type 2 legal.

    I don't own a black lorus otherwise that's what the petal would be most likely.
    The biggest thing I have found is the do nothing of not having a SotF and getting your welder misstepped; Misstep is almost in my sb but I ahve no idea if its worth having less creatures in the deck.

    @bleedth3sky

    Yeah I've found that if Welder is Misstepped and you don't have Survival, you can get bottlenecked on mana. Though sometimes this is mitigated by cards like Sylvan Library, Ancestral, and Library of Alexandria. Or you can get enough fast mana to cast Wurmcoil Engines. There seems to be some variance with all that, so maybe there is a way to rework the mana base with Ancient Tombs and Cavern of Souls.

  • Fun deck but it hasn't quite been panning out for me in testing. The issue I've been having is that I often can't get pressure in early enough, or if I land an early threat, keep the pressure coming. Creatures like Genesis and Fire Imp have been dead draws much of the time, and I've been crumbling a lot to a piece or two of disruption. Still, I feel that the list isn't far off from being excellent. It's possible, however, that I am not used to playing it right. It is not type of deck I have experience with by any means.

    Also, @desolutionist, between this and TKS Gifts I've been loving your innovative lists.

  • I've always been a huge fan of SotF but I've never really played it much in Vintage. I'm familiar with TnT though, and this deck is really fun to play. However, I'm not really sure what Genesis does here. I also tjink you can do vetter than Fire Imp. Also, I think that Combustible Gearhulk could be pretty good in place of one of the current robots.

    this deck wants chromatic lantern, especially if splashing blue

    @Juggernaut-GO

    As opposed to Coalition Relic?

    Thanks, I actually just play my best when I'm excited about what I'm playing. I enjoy being the underdog and enjoy playing strategies enriched with theory about the meta. It's both my greatest strength and my greatest weakness. Like with playing music, you need a good sound quality to be inspired to continue playing; "hey that sounds pretty good, I'm going to try this now". The deck itself needs to be inspiring for me to continue playing otherwise I get bored and make mistakes on the basis of wanting to just log off of MTGO. I could play deck 'x' because its a superior deck but my heart and soul won't be in it and I'd be lucky to then have an average finish. But I'll play a deck like Goblins or TNT and pour everything I've got into it and feel quite satisfied with a top 8.

    Thanks for the input about Genesis and Fire Imp. I'm taking everyones input into consideration to hopefully get a brew together tonight that can 3-1/4-0 one of the dailies this weekend.

  • Thoughts on Scarecrone? comes down off mishra and 4 mana return Wurmcoil isnt terrible. might be and interesting replacement for genesis or a 5th welder.

    Kuldotha Forgemaster may do some work as a second tinker.

    Scab-Clan Berserker seems real good against Gush strategies but the 1RR casting cost may be too hard

  • Anyone down with faithless looting? Seems like it could give you a greater range of keeps.

  • I like TNT, but the issues I see is 1) variance; the card advantage is mitigated by multiple worthless survivals if the opponent can stop the engine, which brings me to the next point 2) this is a grave-based deck in disguise. Vs a LotV or RiP, welder and squee are shut off, meaning your cheap giants and card engine are cut off. Workshop helps, but it's just a big-body shop deck with... 3) no disruption. Storm, vault/key, oath will be brutal. 4 waste/strip help vs dredge, but that should be rough sledding too. Even "fair" decks can beat this if they have things like revoker (survival), fiend hunter, relic warden, plow, strips, scavenging ooze, etc. A hate deck geared out to strictly beat gush, sure this'll stomp it.
