Vodalian Hexcatcher 1U
Creature - Merfolk Wizard
Other Merfolk you control get +1/+1.
Sacrifice a Merfolk: Counter target noncreature spell unless its controller pays 1.
well, all merfolk are now cursecatchers. except better, because cursecatcher only hits instants and sorceries and this hits any noncreature. more instant speed tricks are also always cumulatively good, as now your opponent doesn't know if 2 mana open represents Merfolk Trickster or this.
idk if this makes fish great again but it certainly looks like a playable card.
If merfolk are playable this will be a big part of why but recently the creature decks have been having a bad time with the prevalence of pyroblast, saga, and Hogaak so it may not pan out. Just my inintial thoughts of course.
also, the "give all merfolk better cursecatcher" ability replaces the evasion/islandwalk part other lords grant, which seems relevant to the Merfolk plan.
In my mind this replaces TNN not a lord.
This seems like a pretty standard base for Merfolk. I wonder if it's worth dropping Force of Negation, 1 TNN, and moving maybe 1 TNN to the SB for 4 of these dudes. I feel like 12 Lords is pretty crazy.

So bear with me, but how many lords does the list need? I'm of the mindset now that LOA may have run its course as a 4 of in Merfolk lists. We already have Master of the pearl trident as a strict upgrade and LOA does carry liability in the mirror. I think in most matches you would sooner want one hexcatcher and one LOA variant in play over 2 LOAs or 2 Hexcatchers.
I somehow doubt the 1/1 stats vs the 2/2 stats are the breaking point for this card when you consider the full package, and the 1U casting cost is also a non trivial upgrade to the lord when you consider Magus of the moon or a bad opener with too many wastelands.
