[SNC] Void Rend

Next level abrupt decay. Not sure what costs 4+ that we need to hit other than planeswalkers, but being as how this is in a different color set and one is blue, feels of note.
-
@protoaddict This card really should hit lands for 3 maina
-
@marland_moore
That would be wildly out of line in any other format. -
@marland_moore They don't even print regular 3 mana land destruction spells anymore. No way in hell they're going to print one that also hits everything else AND is an instant.
-
@wagner Vindicate does exist, but yes, Instant and uncounterable would be too much.
-
@protoaddict Vindicate has not been playable for years in Vintage. It was added to MH2 and it is not playable in Modern either.
This being 3 mana that does not hit a land is not playable in Vintage or Legacy. It may see some play in Modern and it will see play in Pioneer and that's fine.
-
@marland_moore Being the colors that it is makes me believe it is a sideboard option for some lists. If it did not have blue I would agree with you but just being pitchable as well as a way to disrupt an onboard combo that is in color. It fits in decks that cannot run Abrupt decay but do have Esper mana sources.
The vindicate example was literally just to point out that a 3 mana desert twisters exists and are not particularly strong on their own.
-
@protoaddict Questions:
Does making it uncounterable make it better than Teferi, Time Raveler?Otawara, Soaring City costs one more mana and counts as a land, is that about the same since you only need blue to channel?
-
If that was a card from Modern Master, then sure, you could argue that it could hit land and it wouldn't be too much.
My point is that it would be completely out of line to print in a standard set.
A 3 mana uncounterable instant than can destroy anything in a format where they won't even reprint Stone Rain would be just nonsense.
-
The comparison to vindicate is fine in modern so this but it hits lands would be fine seems a stretch to me as this is notably both uncounterabla and an instant powercreeping on two axes is more than twice as dangerous as powercreeping on only one axis.
-
@marland_moore Teferi can be used besides this, they have different play patterns and are not mutually exclusive.
Otwara is a land and therefor not pitchable, a strong attribute of this card, but again not mutually exclusive.
