Grixis Monkey

Hey guys, I’m gearing up to play some paper Vintage with a good friend of mine next week. I played a good bit of Modern over the summer so I’ve got Ragavan on my mind as something I really want to try out and play with.
Now the modern ragavan decks over the summer that were really good were BR. Turns out discard goes a long way towards making sure your Ragavans connect.
I was just curious if anyone has tried a Ragavan brew with heavy discard as part of the disruption package. Because it kind of seems like Ragavan has been dialed back quite a bit in Vintage otherwise.

Those modern RB rock decks are pretty sweet but I'm not sure they translate very well to vintage. Discard just isn't that good most of the time in vintage in my experience. That said, plenty of people are trying the monkey in vintage. There are a few copies in jeskai nowadays, it was great in jund, people are playing it in more aggressive UR lists.

Okay, I admit I only looked at the most recent result for Ragavans and only found 1 copy in the top 8.
I’m actually learning how to use web crawlers, so I’m hoping to apply that technology to applications like this in the future. It seems like mtgoldfish is quick to cycle away old tournament results, but I suspect that information is still contained online.
It can at least be obtained using the way back machine

@lienielsen You shouldn't need to use the wayback machine. If you're just looking at the popular decks/metagame section on mtggoldfish it will show you the most recent decks but if you are interested in finding decks from a particular time period or using a particular card you can use their advanced deck search to find those. For instance here is a list of all the tournament finishes for vintage decks containing at least one copy of ragavan from the beginning of October to today.

I think if you want to play black and red you might as well play blue and if you want to play grixis the old thief lists seem like a good place to start. They often ran some discard elements and the notion theives/hulllbreachers seem good vs all the thoughtcasts running around and golos is very sad when you dack their crucible.
