Hey there folks,
This last Saturday I won the May edition of the Catalan Vintage League with White Eldrazi. We were only 18 players this time, less players ever in a LCV, which is very bad news. Anyway, here's the decklist I played:
Maindeck:
4 Ancient Tomb
4 Cavern of Souls
3 Eldrazi Temple
2 Karakas
5 Plains
1 Strip Mine
4 Wasteland
4 Containment Priest
4 Eldrazi Displacer
4 Glowrider
4 Reality Smasher
3 Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
3 Thalia, Heretic Cathar
4 Thought-Knot Seer
1 Black Lotus
1 Chalice of the Void
1 Mana Crypt
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Pearl
1 Mox Ruby
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Sol Ring
1 Thorn of Amethyst
1 Trinisphere
Sideboard:
2 The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale
3 Kataki, War's Wage
3 Spirit of the Labyrinth
4 Grafdigger's Cage
3 Suppression Field
I will write no report, just some random thoughts and ideas. Anyway, 3 of my 6 matches were featured, so they will be posted in the EternalCatala channel of YouTube in a few days; I'll let you know when they'll be uploaded.
I played against:
Round 1, win 2-1 vs UR Pyro uploaded to twitch, from 0:38:19 to 1:09:23
Round 2, win 2-0 vs Survival
Round 3, win 2-0 vs Jeskai
Round 4 & 5, ID
1st qualified in the Swiss, so I started all rounds of Top 8
Top 8, win 2-0 vs UR Pyro (same player as round 1)
Top 4, win 2-0 vs PO Mentor uploaded to twitch, from 0:22:05 to 0:44:40
Final, win 2-0 vs Jeskai (same player as round 3) uploaded to twitch, from 1:16:44 to 1:45:13
Total, 6-0 in matches, 12-1 in games. Not bad
Thoughts:
-
War of the Spark has been, strangely enough, a blessing for White Eldrazi. Only in the Top 8 decks there was 10 Narsets, 7 Karns, 2 Teferis and 1 Ashiok, cards that are almost (or totally) irrelevant to our gameplan. Karn might be a problem if our opponent reaches the mana to cast it through all our taxing effects -and- we have some mana rock in play, and that's all. So our opponents are jamming more and more cards that do nothing against us, which seems OK to me.
-
On the other hand, some folks are starting to pack Infernal Reckoning on their sideboards, which I don't especially like!
-
I managed to dodge the Workshop players (my round 4 opponent played Forgemaster MUD with 3x the new Karn, but we IDd), so I'm unsure about the match. I suppose it will range between difficult and unwinnable, but who knows, maybe the mix between Tabernacle, Kataki and Suppression Field actually works!

The deck performed wonderfully the whole day. I play 31 mana sources, which is way too much, but I got mana flooded only in the one game I lost. The rest of the day, my draws were totally smooth. I'm a mediocre player at my best days, and you'll be able to spot a lot of misplays when my games will be uploaded to YouTube, but the deck compensated my lack of skill.

Since this Saturday, I'm testing sideboarding 2x The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale as an answer against Workshops and Pyromancer tokens. I drew Tabernacle only in the 2nd game of Top 8, and I didn't even played it because I could manage the tokens my opponent played without it. Anyway I like the card and the tech, so I'll keep them for the next tournaments.
-
I'm starting to side out all my non-mana artifacts (chalice, thorn and trinisphere on the draw) game 2, just to leave my opponents totally without targets for their hate. If they want to Smelt a Mox, I can live with that. I'm not sure if that's a good strategy anyway.

Sunday I also made Top 8 in Catalan Old School League with Eureka, so I suppose last weekend was my weekend
I'll edit this message if I think about some other thoughts to share.
Thanks for reading, sorry for my bad English and long live Eldrazi!
