I am suprised this has not come up yet. It is very likley a sideboard card but it seems like it can be a real strong hoser against any deck with an all in strategy, plus when it is broken it cantrips for you, possibly drawing you into countermagic.

The places where I could see this doing a lot of work are against Oath and PO. Probably works against bloodmoon strategies as well but those are just much less prominent.

I had started a post about this card and I discarded. Sometimes the feedback about cards like this feel short-sighted.

I'm happy that you posted about this card, I think this card has a ton of potential. I fits into Death and Taxes but also enables new strategies that I am very curious to explore..

@moorebrother1 I don't think it takes the world by storm or anything, I just think it has a place. I mean honestly if the card by itself is good enough to stop 1 prominent archetype such as PO or Oath, and does so in a list that needed that particular tool, then it is a vintage card, end of story.

Meddling mage had seen play in it's time, and this is cheaper and often harder to remove, which makes all the difference in it's pliability.

@protoaddict I think the big difference here though is Meddling Mage shuts off a strategy period, until you remove the mage. This is just a speed bump at best. Costing 2 more for oath of druids is not a very big deal. maybe it buys you a turn, but I'd rather any generic sphere effect instead. This is also strictly SB, because naming this blind, unless you scouted your opponent in a tourney, is just bad G1. PO has no trouble generating crazy mana. If they are POing for 3U just to draw a couple with no mana floating, you are winning anyway. The tax is annoying for the namesake card, sure, but hardly game winning like MM might be.

@thewhitedragon69 I strongly agree with you and I think this card works best in Wasteland decks like Humans, Death and Taxes and maybe some Stoneforge yet to be built deck.

The point of a card like this is to either name Force of Will to get your threats down and lock up the board by playing Archon of Emeria or to get your opponent off of their plan A like naming Tinker on this and playing a Null Rod or having something else to back up your plan to win.

This card is not so good against Shops, and maybe marginally playable against a HollowVine or Dredge deck but mostly not playable against about 30% of the meta. If Pitch Dredge was at the top of the heap I'd side this in to name FOW or FOV to slow them down but that is not the case today.

Almost forgot to add this would a speed bump to a Breach deck and a blank against BUG so maybe it's only worth it against Cantrip decks.

This would be quite scary for a doomsday deck to have to fight through especially out of a jeskai style deck with counter magic.

I really don't want to run it, you know how tight the list is these days, more likely we would see a return of the maindeck chain.
