This is worse that Preordain but better than Opt. This may fill in gap for cantrips in Vintage. I want 6-8 cantrips with Murktide Regent now. Since this does not really help Combo it will probably be ignored but I think this is a 2 of in Xerox/Cantrip style control builds.

I have been looking for a way to bring back the blue tempo shell and this card helps a lot by making Dreadhorde and Snapcaster a little more playable. This also pairs nicely with Jace, Vryn's Prodigy

@moorebrother1 If you are using this in Murktide is it actually better than Thought Scour?

This gives you some limited selection at the risk of you not being able to put more than this in your graveyard, so if you are trying to power up delve this is actually kinda weak. I think there may actually be one mana cyclers (and street wraith) that may be better positioned than this.

It also does not have the added benefit of being able to interact with top deck tutors.

@protoaddict I played thoughtscour and it OK. This card is card selection and an instant. This is not a great card but an OK card.

I tried Portent and Serum Visions when I played Lutri and those cards are bad in Vintage. This really depends on what you need from a cantrip and why you need cantrips.

I'm going to test in a few shells and see.

@moorebrother1 My point here is that if you are using it in murktide you obviously want to power the delve. Ponder, preordain, and Brainstorm both give you more selection, while scour gives you no selection but powers delve 3 times as much.

This card however, either gives you much less selection than the common cantrips, and much less self mill (if any) than scour for the ability to sometimes give minimal selection. You are sacrificing both halves of the equation for pretty minimal versatility. Depending on your colors I would not be shocked to find that something like stitchers supplier works better at doing what you need.

I think you assessed it correctly:

-This is worse that Preordain but better than Opt.

the ability to see 3 cards instead of 2 is way better than being instant and possibly put a card in the graveyard. As long as we talk about cantrips this is possibly the best you can get cc U.

If you accept non-cantrips Thought Scour or even Faithless Looting are probably better. But none of the mentioned cards is really Vintage playable.

@ilpeggiore I'm trying to look at cards as would I play this in Vintage not would someone change their decklist to slot this into it.

Most new sets do not have very many playable Vintage cards, there are some key exceptions. This set looks to be a weak watered down Standard set and cards like this are often sleepers.

If someone wants more cantrips there are not many good options aside from 1 Brainstorm, 1 Ponder, 4 Preordain. You might count Gitaxian Probe. This cards offers a play style more akin to Legacy.

You can play 10 cantrips for 1 blue mana and you have 5 instant speed options to dig for counter magic or sculpt your hand. I'm looking for cards that can give me a new deck in Vintage even if it is similar to an existing deck. This card might do that, it might not but I would not dismiss this so quickly.

In Murktide I don't see why you would not count this. I might also count Street wraith to be blunt because in decks with the other cantrips you can often set up something to be drawn with the cycle.

I'm bumping this up, again. This is the most playable Vintage card in this set. It will see play in Vintage.

@moorebrother1 Aren't most Xerox decks already glutted on the best cantrips imaginable? I feel like a lot of decks have moved AWAY from mass cantrips in favor of more critters these days.

@stormanimagus MH2 shifted the format into more of a creature format. Technically you can still play an Esper deck with Sedgemoor Witch, and go nuts with more cantrips.

I recently tested Breach and more cantrips also helps that deck a lot.
