I'm happy with what we got for EMA1 and looking forward to it in future years.

Will be a win for me if MODO Wastelands are less than $30. I just couldn't see paying $240 a playset to play shops online, even if I have to play the new artwork which I don't like...

@mickey.nobilis I own (or used to own in the case of Port since it was silly to not sell something I never use at 160 tickets) both cards. I could care less about their prices for me personally. I just want other people to have reasonable access to these cards so that MTGO can be more accessible.

You are one hundreds of examples I've seen during these announcements of folks raging out because of some mythical target audience not getting what we think they want. Rishadan Port and Misdirection are two of the worst examples to give of cards keeping players out of this format. Just because they're overpriced doesn't mean they're current staples.

@mickey.nobilis raging? Do you have any idea what that means? I guess you ignored where I said I could personally care less about the prices. I just want to see these cards reasonably priced so that decks can be built properly on MTGO. How many people refuse to play DnT in Legacy because they have to spend $700+ on a set of Ports? It creates an artificial meta game online that isn't nearly as skewed as Ports are in paper.

@enderfall Legacy isn't the "this format" I am questioning. Since I'm on a Vintage forum I want to discuss the Vintage impact. This isn't some r/Pauper thread where people are sad because Oubliette and Cuombajj Witches weren't reprinted, and even they are optimists since they got Elite Vanguard as a common.

I agree with you that Rishadan Port and Misdirection are very likely not keeping players out of Vintage or Legacy. The cost likely does influence the deck selection of people who do play - much more relevant in Legacy where Port is a staple in Lands and Death and Taxes - but I doubt anyone approaches Legacy saying "I'm playing Death and Taxes or bust".

The issue for me is that I don't think the current price tags are justified. Rishadan Port should not be more expensive than Black Lotus, the most iconic card in the game, and Misdirection as a fringe playable shouldn't be three times the price of Force of Will. I think many players agree with this though I do recognize that this is an option, not a fact. Wizards has essentially said as much when they said they were exploring ways of introducing more copies of low demand cards into the online economy (which they had done previously through Judge Promos, Legendary Cube packs, and now the Legacy and Vintage Challenges). The disappointment for me is that this set seemed like a perfect opportunity to do so.

@mickey.nobilis My apologies for upsetting you and seemingly wasting your time discussing how an eternal set designed to introduced supply of cards across multiple formats could impact one of those said formats other than Vintage. Maybe we should go back and delete all the comments about people spoiling cards that never see the light of day in Vintage?

Eternal letdown. Another miserable set by wizards. They sacrificed growing the eternal formats so they had a sweet limited environment.

                    Terrible.

No port, misdirection, imperial recruiter, imperial seal, berserk, grove of the burnwillows, dark depths, land tax, capture of jingzhou.

But hey, here are all the necropotence, worldgorger Dragons, Sphinx of the steel wind, and argothian enchantress (this could easily have been uncommon, cutting Mesa enchantress from the set) you could possible want.

No oubliette is a huge oversight.

@enderfall You're more than forgiven. Just keep in mind that Death & Taxes isn't a typical Vintage deck, and even when Paul Rietzl plays it in Vintage it doesn't run Rishadan Port.

This is the biggest disappointment. This had the potential to be the first set I actually spent money on, but they left out mana drain. Whoever designed this crap should be fired and replaced with someone who actually cares about card availability for the masses. Mark Rosewater even said somewhere in the last couple of days that they deliberately leave out important reprint-worthy cards so they can have headlines for the next time they do an eternal masters set...in 2-3 years.
If they did it correctly, and reprinted many of the cards we need to grow the paper community, by the time 2-3 years rolls around demand would be so high again for the cards that they would still be insane moneymakers, and people could afford to actually play the format.

Seems like a pretty great set. I didn't expect them to try to put EVERYTHING with an inflated price all in one set, so it seems like a good balance between some key reprints, a fun draft enviroments and getting to play some power cards from yesteryear.

I'd be more than willing to write an open letter to Hasbros upper management about how Mark Rosewater must be sacked. Give them a financial incentive and they will.

I've heard working for Wizards is a toxic environment, as its a seniority based system and the exact opposite of a meritocracy. Going after him would be an obvious choice, and one the Board of directors would have to listen to if you appeal to their monetary interests.

I'd need researchers to find direct quotes on Rosewater, and proof readers/co writers. It only gets stronger when more people get involved.

The set makes me sick to my stomach. They had a chance to expand the player base of all eternal formats with this set, they expanded the player base by ZERO.

I'm ok with Efreet and sylvan library in the set. Even karakas. Im also glad for Gsz being in. Although, Its dumb for heritage druid and imperious perfect to be rare this time around. Set as a whole, Fail. Not because Mana drain isn't in the set, but because this set seems boring even to draft. I would rather draft origins and bfz again.

this set isnt bad but its not good, its ok imho, there are good cards in this set and it will allow for more access to some of these cards, but none of us should have expected to get all the staples in one set, and that seems what people were expecting. if they put every good card in this set then whats the point of the next set? if they reprint those good cards again it will crash the secondary market. misdirection, rishadin port, mana drain and other cards may be in eternal masters two, just give it time. the set isnt that bad, but as i said its not great, just ok.

This set looks awesome! Will likely be fun limited format and introduces quite many cards to the mtgo economy.

Sure, I would have loved Mana Drain in the set, instead of all of the kitchen table chaff. But we knew the expected value of a pack wasn't going to be significantly above MSRP.

And even if they had included Mana Drain and the P3K cards, Eternal Masters would not have taken us any closer toward fixing the shortage of the true Vintage staples: the power 9, dual lands, Mishra's Workshop and Bazaar of Baghdad. Instead of complaining about Mark Rosewater, it would be better to urge Hasbro Legal to grow a spine.

All told I am glad I did not grab any boxes of EM. It got a TON of hype locally and I felt pressured to buy in since I play mostly Legacy and Vintage but I really don't need anything currently and I do not maintain a trade binder. I figured it would have roughly a dozen chase cards and the rest would be a couple low cost gems with plenty of chaff for the drafters.

The price of Port is prolly the only reason I don't at least test DnT online. I agree Port shpould have been in Em. I played the deck in paper and always look for more ways to test.

wow, white, blue, and red look insanely powerful and fun for limited. Black looks horrible outside of its bonkers rares. Green pretty decent.

The 4 best commons in the set are all Blue: Counterspell, Memory Lapse, Man-o-war, and Phantom Monster. Blue also has the most mythics (4) and other very good, and often great, commons/uncommons. Seems over powered to me.
