Our first Clash at the Cradle Vintage Event had 37 players paying out to the top 8. To be honest I was a bit nervous being my first big event outside Depot. I couldn't be happier with the event. Everything went on on time and very smoothly. The vintage judge staff was amazing with little or no problems. We are doing this again but on a Saturday next time. We are working on a date but I'm hopeful for November but its too early yet.

The Comic Book Depot next 2 vintage events is FNM May 5th at 8pm and May 28th 1k NYSE qualifier.

Here is the top 8 deck list.

This event was awesome, great prize payout and what a cool place to hold a tournament! I had the privilege of taking this one down (first tournament win ever BTW, though i have come close so many times) and I couldn't have had a better time with my vintage friends! My competition all day was fierce and every game seemed like an epic battle (the kinds of games you play vintage for.) I want to thank Alan and the depot team for organizing the event, and will I def be going to the next one they put together at the cradle!
            Cheers!
            Chris

Nice first place list! This type of Paradoxical Control deck seems pretty good (Brian Kelly has been playing something in the same vein although going with some other card choices). I really like the inclusion of Forsake the Worldly (I didn't know that card but it seems very good), but I would be a bit worried only playing 12 lands.

@Griselbrother thanks for commenting! Forsake the Worldy was pretty good, i didn't have time to test that card specifically before the event but i liked a lot of the elements of the card. On the day it did it's job, exiled an oath and cycled a few times (the fact that its never a dead draw and kills null rod/stony was the main reason i played it). I have been brewing brewing paradoxical lists since the card was spoiled (seeing the obvious raw potential of the card) and was happy to see Brian K was doing similar things. I will admit I did steel his moat tech, never really dawned on me to play it in this style of deck but it was absolutely killer all day. As far as the land count, it does seem a bit light at first glance but i have been on 12 + 1sb for a while and it honestly feels like its in a real good place. I think I only mulliganed once all day and my prior testing has yielded similar results.

I've been playing various Paradoxical builds lately and except for the most agressive of builds, I've always settled on 14 lands, but I might try going to 13 instead. Can you comment on the 2x Baleful Strix? I understand why they're there, but I'm just curious how they've been playing out as they strike me as the weakest card in the list.

@Griselbrother So baleful strix is def the worst card in the list, but i think its invaluable in what it does for the deck. It synergizes really well with outcome, turns on your opals (and thoughcast if you r playing it) and provides you much needed time to set up your kills. I kind of think of it as the bridge card that gets you from early to late game as fast as possible. its def worse now with the printing of ballista, but in awkward matchups its an easy card to cut. Its the kind of card im rarely sad to see. I also don't think it belongs in every paradoxical list (def not the more balls out combo lists). my list is trying to be the hard control deck that turns into combo kills on a dime (at least thats what im going for :)).

There is a lack of Eldrazi in the local LI scene that is any paradoxical decks tough matchup and Strix really shines there.

Amazed at how many ran Library! It's always been good but has it just been heating up again recently or is it just me not paying attention. Been itching to brush the dust off of mine...
