Great job, Mr. Seals!!!!!
2  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: East Coast Wins Primer on: June 26, 2014, 03:39:55 AM
I've recently been working on an updated version of East Coast Wins myself too. It's been too long since that deck has seen the light of day, and I think it's time to bring it back to the forefront.....

This looked like it was a tremendous event. Hopefully, I'll be able to go to next year's.

Congratulations to fellow Ramrodder Mr. Seals for winning the Main Event, and Mr. J.P. Kohler for taking down the Sunday event.

I also want to thank Jaco and Eternal Central for their awesome round by round coverage, which was just perfect for me to keep tabs on those I knew that were playing on Saturday while I was stuck at work.

And of course, a big congratulations to Mr. Detwiler for getting an awesome turnout!
4  Eternal Formats / Northeast U.S. / Re: The Players Guild - Vintage for Store Credit/NYSE II Open Qualifier - 6/7/14 on: June 05, 2014, 02:49:44 PM
I'll be there as well to be your friendly round by round bye.

Seconded. Great job, Keith, and congrats to the rest of the Top 8 as well!
6  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Movies that should be remade on: March 28, 2014, 12:33:10 AM
I for one would love to see "1984" be remade, with John Hurt playing the role of O'Brien. I had read several times that Ron Howard was interested in remaking this, but yet, it has not come to pass. It's one of those timeless cautionary tales that gets referenced so much, but, I am certain that many of the younger generations are totally unaware that Big Brother is not just the name of a bad reality T.V. series.
7  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: 1st at TOP DECK GAMES . 3/15/14 on: March 26, 2014, 10:29:24 AM
Very nicely done, Keith! Way to represent the 'Rod!

Seconded! Way to go, Keith!
9  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: TO Report: The Players Guild 02/01/14 on: February 03, 2014, 08:34:09 PM
And big ups to Ream Ramrod's own Mr. Grim for his Top 4 finish as well as the rest!
10  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: Grixis Delver on: January 24, 2014, 10:49:00 PM
I can't really argue with the card choices at all. This is about as tight of a deck as one can be, given the goals of this type of deck. Thank you for sharing this, Soly. Looking forward to seeing how it performs in action.
11  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: TO Report: The Players Guild 01/04/14 on: January 06, 2014, 02:57:44 PM
Big ups to Lance and the rest of the Top 8. Sorry to have missed this one, but will certainly be at the next one! Also, "Brian Kelly Decks" just may the the single best description of Brian Kelly decks that I've ever seen.  Very Happy

I had never heard of Trapmaker's Snare until now. That's actually really clever.

Team Ramrod's message to those who will try to oppose us for the title

Classic mistake of bringing an axe to a gun fight...

Classic mistake of bring a gun to a coke rocket fight...

Hope you brought your baking skills cause we're about to send you home with a Condolences Casserole!

We're not leaving until we've burned the whole place down.

You don't stand a chance in the face of Team Ramrod once we get the syrup in us

It's not the TO's fault

This is key.  We'd order 500 cases of Commander 2013 if we could.

Not that I expected to get it, but I ordered 3,000 cases of the 2013 Commander Decks.  Very Happy

I have been working on this and we should have upwards of 80 of each deck available for purchase.
Also, other vendors have been permitted (and encouraged) to bring Commander Decks with them to help meet local demand.

-Nick

And that is why Nick Coss is the REAL Godfather. Looking forward to being there.
18  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: [COMM] Toxic Deluge on: October 19, 2013, 11:32:18 PM
This is a very good card.  Having the discretion to amp up the X to hit things like Trygons, Salvagers, Angels, and in a pinch Tinker bots or Shop demons gives a lot of latitude to swing games in one's favor.  I expect to see it in Vintage at some point.

I agree with this. For the mana cost of Perish/Virtue's Ruin (Both of which have seen Vintage play for a long time in decks that did not splash Red for Pyroclasm) and, essentially, the life-loss total of Dismember (Which has also seen plenty of Vintage play), this card is a Pyroclasm that works against Workshop decks. Now, granted, the life loss associated with this card doesn't have the Phyrexian mana benefit that Dismember provides (Meaning you still have to pay 3 mana to use this card regardless), but, the fact that no matter how many Lodestone Golems, Steel Hellkites, or Forgemasters are on the field, this card will wipe them all out at once, ALONG with their annoying Phyrexian Revoker counterparts makes this card an incredible weapon as it's still equally useful against the Aggro decks, unlike Pyroclasm, which is virtually useless against Workshop decks.
19  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Vintage for FTV:Jace2.0/for Cash Results! Lists! Pics! on: September 17, 2013, 12:37:01 AM
It's just Grow with Bobs.  I'm not planning an article/tournament report on it, even though I had plenty of tournament material.   But I appreciate the interest.  The Grow primer I wrote recently has 95% of the key precepts.

I understand that it's your previous Grow deck with Bobs over Regrowth and Jace, and in fact I bought the primer the day it came out (I just enjoy reading about Vintage, in general), so it's not something like that I was expecting. Just something more along the lines as to why you made that specific change and how exactly it worked out for you on the day is all. Obviously, you did quite well with this configuration, and congratulations on that. I love seeing Gush decks doing well.

Bob-Gush-Mancer. That's interesting, for certain. I presume there will be something coming from you on Eternal Central in the near future, Steve. I'm interested in reading it, if that is the case.

A Carsten Kotter Type 1 deck from way back when.  Look in my article archive or do web searches.

Thank you, Jaco.
22  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Burning Wish Outside of Pure Combo Decks on: September 14, 2013, 03:54:24 PM

FWIW, I admit I totally underestimated the combined design elements of Wish along with Oath and better expansion in the new Long lists.  Burning Wish really allows them to dodge traditional hate while employing lots of lines of play.

That would have been nice to hear -- a year ago :p

But I do appreciate that you are man enough to admit it now.

On topic, Heiner had built a really powerful Burning Wish control deck in the spirit of The Shining that is worth a look.

The Shining? May I ask what that is?
23  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Happy Birthday, TO BILL COPES! on: September 13, 2013, 03:29:19 PM
Although I've never had the honor of meeting him in person, I am well aware of the legend of Bill Copes. When the Bible was first written, it was originally supposed to be titled "Bill Copes & Friends", but, Bill Copes' modesty allowed it to be named what it is today. Happy Birthday!

Thanks everyone! And a special thanks to Shawn for running, as always, an awesome event! It may have been a small field, attendance-wise, but it was a very talented field, and I was really glad to play everyone who I did play. Also, an extra special thanks to my teammates for the support, playtesting, and just plain old bouncing ideas off the wall with.

Steve, it was just a mis-type. Shawn has updated my list in the thread. No way in hell do I win this event without Yawg's Will!

Brian, that was a great set we had against each other, and Impulse was a huge factor in getting me the win in that one. I'm glad you like the idea.

One last thing. As icing on the cake for the day, the Vintage Fantasy Football League draft after the tourney was a blast! Thanks again to Shawn for putting that together as well!

I hope everyone drives safely to this event (I'm looking at you PSU crew). I'm sure the cops will be out in full force on I-80 this holiday weekend.

Who's losing to me in top 8 and who's beating me in top 4?

Good evening, my name is Chris, I'll be your Top 4 opponent tomorrow.
29  Eternal Formats / Northeast U.S. / Re: [Top Deck Games] 6.22.13 - $2000 Vintage Event - Part of our 2013 Eternal Series on: June 22, 2013, 11:12:50 PM
This...field...was...CRAZY!!! People tuning in will prob be blown away by the decklists at this Top 8. 38 people total, good turnout! T4 split between:

Calvin - Grixis Control
Josh - Calvin Homebrew (Landstill'ish)
Samantha - Man Bear Fish
and your official winner:

Lance Ballester - Dr. Edge's Laboratory

(decklists identified may not be 100% accurate)   Very Happy

Congrats everyone! Especially Calvin on his unretirement tourney and Sam for their glorious returns to Vintage. But not Lance, he's been winning too much...

Seconded! The field was just nuts. I know that an Affinity Shops deck made the Top 8, and my teammate, Josh Richards finished 3rd in the Swiss standings with BUG Fish, only to lose to the aforementioned Josh and his very strange Landstill/Mayor Fish/Delver deck in the Quarterfinals. I finished 9th with Talrand/Empty Gush after a brutal 0-2 start to my day, and my other attending teammate, Jon Geras finished 16th on Noble Fish (I've never seem so many Fish and Fish-like decks as I did today!), so Team Ramrod all finished in the money. One helluva day of card-slinging. If you weren't here, you missed out on a great event.
